USA & CANADIAN Politics

I find it interesting how people focus so much on the USA and their politics (not saying that its a bad thing since they have a huge effect on canada) and know so little about our own politics here in Canada. There was a segment on CTV that asked people on the streets what they were doing that night (it was the night of the vice presidential debate and there was also a segment on the canadian election..which I have NO CLUE about) and almost everyone said they were tuning into the v.p debate (and missing their favourite shows to watch it) and not one of them had a clue about the canadian election segment. Personally, I definitely am more knowlegable about the US and their politics and tune into the presidential debates/follow the news coverage of it. I wonder why that is…why people don’t seem to pay much attention to our own politics here in Canada. Thoughts?

That’s actually a very interesting point. Did you know the conservative party didnt even realease their platform until a day or two ago? before that they were STILL getting votes. How do you say you’re going to vote for someone if you don’t know their platform? i guess personality and past preformance has a lot to do with it the votes.
ANyways, in response to your question. is it possible that the US election is more publicized? or maybe its cuz its just always on in my house that i listen to so much of it. But also, because its two parties going head to head is why its so popular. Plus, the US has a huge effect on canada.

Yea, I was having this discussion with my dad and older brother because my dad is consumed in the usa election and also finds it funny how people know so much more about their election. My brother did bring up the fact that the USA election has wayyyy more publicity (look at CNN and their coverage for example). I mean, they get so into talking about the candidates’ personal lives etc., like how Obama forgot his anniversary, which could be completely pointless information.

I think there are several reasons. One, they are the world superpower, and effect the world more than any other nation.
Two, they have more money, its bigger, and more publisised.
Three, the US has a level of ferocity that simply does not enter into Canadian polotics. Why it doesn’t I am not sure. But the level of compettition is much much higher.
